Tax Time!

Updated: May 11, 2023

The federal tax deadline is approaching. It can be a daunting challenge for small business owners to accurately and timely file their individual and business taxes. With all that energy and stress, it can be easy to overlook tax filing requirements by Washington State and your local city, such as Seattle.

Although Washington State does not have an individual income tax, your business could owe state and city taxes. It is important, even if you doubt your business will owe state or local taxes, to appropriately file a tax return.

You can file your taxes with the City of Seattle, and other cities in Washington State, using File Local. You will need to create an account if you do not already have one. General information about business and occupancy (B&O) taxes for Seattle can be found here.

You can file your Washington State taxes with the Washington State Department of Revenue at https://dor.wa.gov. The agency provides information about applicable taxes, deductions and exemptions as you go through the filing process.

While you are logged in on File Local and the WA DOR website, you can also check to ensure your business licenses are still current!
